Dr. Chern is a board-certified comprehensive Ophthalmologist specializing in cataract surgery and corneal diseases. Dr. Chern graduated from Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, Illinois. His residency was at the Cleveland Clinic; followed by a fellowship in corneal diseases at Francis I. Proctor Foundation at the University of California at San Francisco. He is the only ophthalmologist in the area with this type of specialized fellowship training and experience.
In addition to LASIK and refractive surgery, Dr. Chern performs corneal transplantation, small-incision cataract surgery, and reconstruction of the ocular surface. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at UCSF and has published four books on the fundamentals of ophthalmology.
Dr. Chern and his wife have a son and new baby daughter. In his free time he enjoys gourmet cooking, cycling and cross country skiing.
